Happy Birthday To Me !

53 years old today !

Where has my life gone to ? I've been writing software professionally for 32 years now and the enthusiasm is waning. I want to retire in seven years, but I can't see me writing software for another seven years. The trouble is, it's all I really know.

I want to do something different (and profitable) for the next seven years, but what ? I want something that leaves my weekends free and allows me the same amount of time for holidays that I have now. That rules out anything in the retail sector. I can't get into anything that is too physically demanding because my back won't take it. I have a couple of hobbies but none that I'd rate as being good enough at to convert into a second career. Ho hum...

On the bright side of today I discovered why R wouldn't tell me where we were going for my birthday dinner tonight. We normally choose our own restaurant but this year she told me that she'd decided for me. Turns out that the last present (of many from her) this morning was tickets to see Dawn French and Alison Moyet in their play Smaller, tonight, with dinner beforehand at an Italian we know just around the corner from R's office. Looks like I'm getting an early finish today and a trip up to town.
